Pond of red lotuses awaits protection

Bardiya, Oct 18:

The Satkhaluwa (Satpatuwal) pond at Satanji of Bardiya where red lotuses bloom is in the dire need of conservation.

The pond that stretches to 60 biga of land is facing encroachment, the locals said. As per the myth gods used to come here to enjoy 'hide and seek' with earthly creatures (humans).

Locals complained that authorities concerned are yet to pay attention to the conservation of the pond that is situated at Dhadhawar VDC near the Chure region.

The pond does not turn dry even in winter attracting wildlife to it. It is home to many sorts of wildlife including deer, birds and python, said a local Tulsiram Tharu.

The red lotus pond is rich in natural beauty and needs to be protected and promoted on time, the locals demanded.
